Privacy Policy
Plain-language summary: We collect only your email address (if you subscribe) and anonymised analytics. We never sell your data. We use Amazon affiliate links — if you click and buy, we earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. All author royalties go to charity.
1. Who We Are
This website, freedomofmoney.net, is operated by the Site Operator (hereinafter "we", "us", "our"). We are a promotional landing page for the book Freedom of Money by Changpeng Zhao (CZ). We do not sell the book directly — all purchases are completed on Amazon.com or its regional marketplaces.
For privacy-related enquiries: info@freedomofmoney.net
2. What We Collect
We collect the minimum data necessary to operate this site:
- Email address — only when you voluntarily subscribe via our notification form or popup.
- Subscription source — which section of the page you subscribed from (e.g., hero, popup), used for internal analytics only.
- Anonymised IP hash — your IP address is irreversibly hashed before storage. We cannot recover your real IP from this hash.
- User-agent string — browser and OS type, stored for click tracking and bot filtering. Not linked to personal identity.
- Page views and referrers — aggregate traffic data. No personal identifiers stored.
We do not collect payment information, phone numbers, precise location data, government identifiers, or any special category data under GDPR Article 9.
3. How We Use Your Data
Your email is used solely to send you a book launch notification (on or around April 8, 2026) and any directly related updates you opted into (such as signed-copy eligibility). We will not email you about anything unrelated to this book.
The legal basis for processing under GDPR is Article 6(1)(a) — Consent. You provided consent when you submitted the subscription form. You may withdraw consent at any time.
Anonymised analytics are processed on the basis of legitimate interests (Article 6(1)(f)) — understanding site performance without identifying individual users.
4. Affiliate Programme Disclosure
Disclosure: This site participates in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Programme. Links to Amazon on this site are affiliate links. If you click a link and make a purchase, we earn a small commission from Amazon at no additional cost to you. The price you pay is identical to going to Amazon directly.
This disclosure complies with: U.S. FTC guidelines (16 CFR Part 255), UK ASA/CAP Code, EU Directive 2005/29/EC on unfair commercial practices, and equivalent regulations worldwide.
Our affiliate relationship does not influence the content, information, or opinions on this site. The book author's royalties are separate from our affiliate commission — CZ's proceeds are donated to charity regardless of whether you use our link.
When you click an affiliate link and visit Amazon, Amazon may set cookies on your device. Those cookies are governed by Amazon's Privacy Notice, not ours.
5. Cookies & Analytics
- PHPSESSID (strictly necessary) — a session cookie used exclusively for CSRF security protection on our forms. Expires when you close your browser. Contains no personal data. Cannot be disabled as it is required for site security.
- Google Analytics GA4 (analytics, optional) — we use Google Analytics to understand aggregate page traffic. GA4 uses cookies (_ga, _ga_*, _gid) to distinguish sessions over time. Data is processed by Google LLC and may be transferred to the United States. You may opt out via Google's browser opt-out add-on or by declining analytics in our cookie consent banner.
- Cookie consent preference (functional) — a cookie storing your cookie consent choice. Valid for 365 days.
We do not use advertising cookies, Facebook/Meta pixels, TikTok pixels, LinkedIn insight tags, or any other third-party tracking beyond Google Analytics.
You can update your cookie preferences at any time by clearing site cookies and re-visiting.
6. Data Sharing & Third Parties
We do not sell, rent, trade, or share your personal data with any third party for commercial purposes.
Data may be processed by the following third parties under appropriate legal safeguards:
- Google LLC — via GA4. Subject to Standard Contractual Clauses for EU-US transfers. See Google Privacy Policy.
- Amazon.com, Inc. — when you click an affiliate link and visit Amazon. Amazon's own privacy policy governs all data collected on their platform.
- Hosting provider — our server host processes server logs under a data processing agreement with us.
We may disclose personal data if required by law, court order, or to protect our legal rights.
7. Data Retention
- Subscriber emails — retained until you unsubscribe or request deletion, then deactivated and purged within 30 days.
- Anonymised analytics — retained up to 12 months, then deleted.
- IP hashes and click events — retained up to 6 months, then purged.
- Server logs — retained by our hosting provider per their standard policy (30–90 days).
8. Your Rights
If you are in the EEA, UK, or California, you have the right to: access your data, rectify inaccuracies, erase your data, restrict or object to processing, and data portability. You also have the right to withdraw consent at any time without affecting the lawfulness of prior processing.
